Kunichika Japanese Prints At The Lady Lever

Mid-week day off, what to do? Jumped on the train and to head to the Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight. The Kunichika Japanese Prints Exhibit.

“Kunichika was one of the most important 19th century print makers in Japan. Kunichika embraced modern subjects and his prints reflected the great social and political change in Japan at the time.”

The prints included scenes from Japanese theatre, political life and the changing social face of Japan.
The bold colours, shapes and dramatic scenes looked like an early version of a Manga Comic.
